The Story Behind the Name and the Music

Originally founded by Miss Katie Rae and her husband, blue performer CA Waller, it was the stories of Katie's family and the stories they told of life the coal miners of Muhlenberg County, the rich musical history of neighbors Merle Travis, Ike Everly and Mose Rager, the fed CA's imagination. Using the musical style of Katie's heritage and passion - harmonies and roots sounds from folk and Western Kentucky country life, he began writing and arranging for a group he named Aunt Bunnie's Parlor.  Aunt Bunnie Baugh (of whom Miss Katie Rae is the youngest niece) was born before the turn of the 20th Century. For much of her life she owned a little country store at a crossroads known as Ebenezer, intersecting Drakesboro, Greenville and Beech Creek in Muhlenberg County. Ike and Mose often sat out front playing guitar in that special style that is now associated with Merle Travis. He learned from them. Merle used to walk up the road to Aunt Bunnie's. Sometimes he would con her son Carl to play her pump organ while he tried to play along on guitar. So our name, Aunt Bunnie's Parlor, is a tribute to Bunnie Baugh. Much of our music is rooted in those sounds that migrated from the British Isles to the hills of mining towns of Kentucky and into the history of this country.  It continues today with songs written by CA Waller, inspired by the stories passed down from Katie's family.
